Vivienne Whiffen en su estudio
Del 5 de junio al 4 de julio de 2026 podremos ver en la sede del Colectivo PhotoEstepona una retrospectiva de la fotógrafa Vivienne Whiffen.

Sobre la autora
Vivienne Whiffen, nacida en Inglaterra, pasó gran parte de su vida en España, donde llegó por vez primera en 1963. Residió durante 25 años en Gaucín y, posteriormente, de nuevo en Estepona donde ya estuvo viviendo en las décadas de los 70 y 80. Los meses de verano viajaba en Marruecos, Francia, los Países Bajos, Bélgica, Croacia y Italia y siempre con su cámara en la mano.
Estudió fotografía en el Bournemouth & Poole College of Art & Design, sin embargo su afición a la fotografía empezó décadas antes donde revelaba su fotografía, principalmente en B/N, en su cuarto oscuro. Posteriormente, se interesó también por la fotografía en color, inspirada tanto por la pintura en museos de arte como por imágenes que encontraba online.
Sus fotos son de muchos países diferentes y de épocas muy diferentes de su vida. Sus temas preferidos, aunque si también le gustaba escenas tradicionales, hermosas, no son obvios y de los cuales surgen preguntas. Sus paisajes son desolados e inquietantes donde “la magia acecha y uno se siento solo pero conectado”.

About the author
Vivienne Whiffen, born in England, spent much of her life in Spain having first come here in 1963. She lived for 25 years in Gaucín and eventually in Estepona where she had previously lived in the 70s and 80s. In the summers she travelled in Morrocco, France, the Netherlands, Belgiun, Croatia and Italy and always with a camera in her hand.
She studied photography at the Bournemouth & Poole College of Art & Design; however, her passion for photography started decades earlier where she revealed her own (mainly) B/W photography in her darkroom. She later also became interested in colour inspired by paintings in museums and images found online.
Her photos are of many different countries and periods of her life. Her preferred themes are ones that are not obvious and from which questions arise. She photographed mainly bleak and brooding landscapes, as the sun rises and fall, “when the magic lurks and one feels alone but also connected’.
